Deep and Wide | The Glenn Murcutt Master Class 2026, Milson Island

10 days of walking in and around Milson Island, following the edges, watching the light, the wind, the fire, the river and all the little signs of life in between.

32 people from different places, brought together with four masters and four mentors. Somewhere along the way, the group became a little more than a group. New friendships, long conversations, shared meals, laughter, and a strange little clan forming in the middle of it all.

A lot of walking, looking, observing, drawing, talking, and simply being there.

10 days, a little family to take home!

Thank you @murcuttfoundation for the time, generosity and space to make all of this possible.

Different ways of seeing, thinking and making came together through conversations, questions, drawings, the generous inputs of the masters, and of course, a fair amount of banter.

Somewhere between looking and making, a little unlearning, a gentle push out of familiar habits, a lot of questioning, and of course, a little poetry :)

Group B, and its many ways of working.

The Open Seam

Designed for a young couple who enjoy hosting as much as they value quiet retreat, this apartment was reimagined to move away from its rigid, compartmentalized footprint in favour of a home that feels open, breathable, and interconnected. The architecture remains minimal and robust, allowing materiality, proportion, and light to shape the experience.

Organized along a clear central axis, the home unfolds as a gallery-like thoroughfare, connecting spaces while extending to a paved backyard and garden-facing edge. Light grey terrazzo unifies the common spaces, while white Indian marble appears across sill details, jambs, and bathrooms. Black Kadappa stone marks the transition to the private spaces, creating a deeper, more intimate atmosphere. Large sliding wooden partitions allow spaces to open, close, and disappear, bringing flexibility without interrupting continuity. Materiality remains intentionally restrained throughout the home. Stainless steel, absolute black granite, polished plywood, natural wood, and red accents introduce warmth within the minimal palette. By keeping surfaces bare and built-ins deeply integrated, the surfaces becomes a durable backdrop that will weather, adapt, and gradually absorb the evolving rituals and life of the couple.
